Writing
Sessions would involve finding the fun and meaning to writing and working up from basic sense of a sentence to more ambitious vocabulary, sentence structure and ensuring all ideas make it to the page. Editing and improving are key skills and deal seamlessly with misconceptions and key learning points.
Reading
Support can be given with phonics sounds, basic decoding and understanding. The areas covered are:
V – vocabulary
I – inference
P – predicting
E – explanation
R – retrieval
S – summarising
A range of texts and books (both fiction and non-fiction) will be introduced to encourage regular and needed reading practise and reading for enjoyment. These books may be novels, have smaller individual extracts, be mostly picture books, comic book stories and even audio books will be explored.
SPaG
Stands for Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. These specific areas are still tested at the end of key stage 2. Hopefully they will all form part of the learning journey of writing, but additional sessions focusing on specific areas can be given.
English Language GCSE
All of the above skills will be developed to ensure the highest possible standards are achieved at GCSE. We specialise in students who may have learning difficulties or need additional time in their papers. There will be an additional focus on exam technique and timing questions according to the marking structure. Complete familiarisation of the GCSE curriculum is undertaken.
All areas of maths will be covered in sessions where there is a need, although number work will certainly feature the most. We will unravel the mysteries of algebra and fractions, using equipment and visual prompts to cement the learning.
Times tables will be a big focus as they are a must for progress to be achieved. We will develop the basic skills involving the four operations (+, -, x and ÷) and build up to formal methods for calculating.
Sessions will include basic practise of these skills (fluency), applying the knowledge in different ways e.g. true/false questions (reasoning) applying the knowledge in a variety of abstract situations (problem solving).
As an outstanding Primary school teacher, I am very experienced and have full subject and working knowledge of the whole of the Primary National Curriculum.
I would therefore be able to address any other needs you think your child may have with any aspect or discipline taught in the Curriculum.
